Virginia Refreshes CTE Programs With $600,000 to Upgrade Equipment

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe recently allocated $600,000 in competitive grants to 16 high schools in and technical centers to revamp career and technical education (CTE) programs.

Each school or center will receive $37,500 to upgrade equipment for CTE programs that demonstrate a high need for resources.

“As we continue to build the new Virginia economy, it is vital that we align our CTE programs with the needs of business and industry,” McAuliffe said in a press release. “These grants will allow the Commonwealth to better provide our young people with the cutting-edge skills and in-demand training they need to fill the jobs of the 21st century workforce.”

The following schools and technical centers will receive the awards:

Monticello Governor's Health Sciences Academy in Albemarle County for diagnostic and virtual modelling programs;
Governor's Health Sciences Academy in Bedford County for biotechnology and forensics;
Staunton River High School in Bedford County for technology education and engineering;
Botetourt Technical Education Center in Botetourt County for mechanical, electrical and computer engineering;
Cumberland County High School in Cumberland County for architectural design and construction;
Ridgeview High School in Dickenson County for cybersecurity;
Dowell J. Howard Center in Frederick County for nursing, automotive technology, technology education and engineering;
Giles County Technology Center in Giles County for precision machine technology;
Hampton High School in Hampton for computer science, game design, cybersecurity and modeling/simulation;
Hermitage High School in Henrico County for precision machining;
Madison County High School in Madison County for simulated workplace environments;
Page County Technical Center in Page County for information technology and cybersecurity;
Rockbridge County High School in Rockbridge County for renewable energy;
Governor's STEM Academy at the Pruden Center for Industry and Technology in Suffolk, for information technology and cybersecurity, computer network software operations and mechatronics;
Blue Ridge Technical Center in Warren County for simulated design and advanced manufacturing; and
Wythe County Technology Center in Wythe County for machinery and welding.
