Turner Educational Services, Inc. (TESI) and Panasonic announced the CNN Student Video Journalist (VJ) Challenge, open to all middle and high school students across the nationthrough Dec. 1, 1995.Production teams consisting of five students -- a writer, producer, camera operator, correspondent and editor -- and guided by a teacher/adviser are invited to produce and submit atwo-minute news story on hard news, sports or lifestyle features.Judged by a panel of television journalists and educators, 12 production teams will be selected as regional winners. Three grand finalists will then receive $1,000 and an all-expense paidtrip to the CNN Center in Atlanta, Ga. in February to appear on a CNN special program that will air all regional winners' videos.Schools interested in the CNN Student VJ Challenge may call TESI at (800) 251-0176 to receive a free official entry kit, which includes a teacher's guide with lesson plans and contestrules, 20 student newsletters, behind-the-scenes newsroom stories and tips from experts, and more.In addition to its flagship product, CNN Newsroom, TESI provides educators with interactive distance-learning events, online resources and a collection of low-cost videos, interactivemedia and print resources.
