Transform Docs for Electronic & Web

GUIDE Author 4.0 is the latest version of a veteran electronic publishing system. New capabilities include Internet distribution, pan/zoom of embedded graphics, full-text indexing and query tools, an array of text and graphics import filters, plus more robust scripting tools. GUIDE Author lets publishers create interactive electronic publications with hypertext links, pop-up notes and roll-up text, graphical hotspots, and multimedia components such as video and sound. Via its LOGiiX scripting macro language, one can add conditional branching, custom user controls and screen layouts, dynamic links to other applications, and more. It is highly suited to instructional purposes. One highlight is the ability of the program to automatically generate a hypertext-linked table of contents and internal cross-referenced links. The full-text indexing, once a separate module, is now integrated; it indexes a single publication or an entire library. Publications created with GUIDE Author may be distributed over the Internet with links to other GUIDE documents on the 'net. On an internal network, performance can be optimized by splitting large publications and libraries into a series of smaller, linked files. Schools or colleges can use GUIDE-created documents to form libraries of curriculum-based material, teacher-support content, student portfolios or a myriad of other applications. A freely distributable run-time viewer is included. GUIDE Reader, an optional viewer, adds a significant number of capabilities. Upgrades from previous releases are $199; SRP is $795. The publisher, formerly OWL International, offered the first commercial hypertext product ten years ago. InfoAccess, Inc., Bellevue, WA, (800) 344-9737.
