28.8 Fax Modem Built Into Speakerphone

Cardinal Technologies has introduced two new speakerphone/fax modems, the MVP288IS (internal) and MVP288XS (external). Both models incorporate 28.8 Kbps data/fax modems with automated voicemail and fax management capabilities.

Distance education settings are an obvious application. Full-duplex conference capability allows for spontaneous, interactive communication without ech'es or awkward pauses.

SoundShare, exclusive to Cardinal, complements a multimedia PC by integrating the speakerphone with an existing sound card; when placing or receiving a call, the speakerphone's audio is output to the computer speakers.

Included is call-management software that logs the telephone number, date, time and length of incoming and outgoing calls and allows users to attach notes for each conversation. A digital phonebook can autodial preset numbers.

In addition, the external model features a Modometer, which displays the connection rate and actual throughput for data transfers. Finally, for situations when speakerphone is not desired, one may plug a regular headset into the built-in RJ8 jack. Cardinal Technologies, Inc., Lancaster, PA, (717) 293-3000.
