Research Evaluates Impact of Technology

The Developmental Education Demonstration Project, jointly sponsored by Invest Learning, the League for Innovation in the Community College, and American College Testing, closed out the spring 1995 data collection with some interesting insights. The 12 participating institutions are in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maine, New Mexico, Ohio and Texas. Project directors and faculty members designed the two-year research project to measure and evaluate the benefits of Invest Learning's software for developmental education students, to outline instructional models of technological integration, and to recommend modifications or improvements for students. Preliminary analysis of the first year's data uncovered results in three major areas of interest. For those students using Invest Learning software, drop-out rates were significantly lower, GPAs for reading and writing were above average, and their comfort level in class was higher. Full study results are on the League for Innovation's Web site (www.league.org) in May 1996. Invest Learning, San Diego, CA, (800) 927-9997, www.investlearning.com.
