Research Evaluates Impact of Technology
        
        
        
        The Developmental Education                                          Demonstration Project, jointly                                          sponsored by Invest Learning, the                                          League for Innovation in the                                          Community College, and American                                          College Testing, closed out the                                          spring 1995 data collection with                                          some interesting insights.                                          The 12 participating institutions are                                          in Arizona, California, Colorado,                                          Florida, Maine, New Mexico, Ohio                                          and Texas. Project directors and                                          faculty members designed the                                          two-year research project to measure                                          and evaluate the benefits of Invest                                          Learning's software for                                          developmental education students,                                          to outline instructional models of                                          technological integration, and to                                          recommend modifications or                                          improvements for students.                                          Preliminary analysis of the first                                          year's data uncovered results in                                          three major areas of interest. For                                          those students using Invest                                          Learning software, drop-out rates                                          were significantly lower, GPAs for                                          reading and writing were above                                          average, and their comfort level in                                          class was higher.
