Technical Word Proc. Adds Math Link

Version 2.5 of Scientific WorkPlace, a technical word processor and computer algebra system, adds a link to Wolfram Research's Mathematica for those who prefer not to use the embedded Maple V kernel.

This link connects a stand-alone copy of Mathematica with the advanced text-processing and publication quality of Scientific WorkPlace, allowing one to type text and perform computations in a single document.

The program ships with over 100 pre-formatted document styles. Plus, onscreen panels and keyboard shortcuts are used to change variables, compute derivatives and integrals, apply vector and matrix operations, plot in 2D or 3D, and more.

Because documents are saved in ASCII LATEX format, they can be exported across operating platforms or via e-mail. Students and faculty may qualify for a significant academic discount. TCI Software Research, Las Cruces, NM, (800) 874-2383, www.tcisoft.com/ tcisoft.html. W
