"PhotoPC" Weighs Under One Pound

Unlike some other digital cameras that use proprietary compression technology, Epson's PhotoPC automatically stores images as JPEG files, for easy inclusion in newsletters, multimedia presentations or Web pages. The point-and-shoot device has the look and feel of a standard camera, weighing less than a pound. It provides 24-bit color in 16.7 million hues and a choice of high- and standard-resolution settings. The ColorTrue processing system ensures that each picture has excellent color accuracy, saturation, balance and contrast. The PhotoPC base unit comes with 1MB of flash memory that stores up to 16 high-resolution or 32 standard images. Optional PhotoSpan memory modules increase total storage capacity to 5MB. The device, which connects to a Macintosh or Windows computer, also accepts any 37mm video camcorder or filter. Also included is Storm Software's EasyPhoto, for retrieving, managing and enhancing images. Epson America, Torrance, CA, (800) GO-EPSON, www.epson.com.
