Publisher Licenses Java Technology

Pierian Spring Software has licensed HotJava from Sun Microsystems and plans to utilize the technology in platform-independent titles for teachers, students and parents. The firm currently publishes a series of courseware titles including Interactive Geography, Continent Explorer II and CampOS Math, as well as the award-winning Digital Chisel multimedia authoring package. The next release of Digital Chisel will let one create projects, embed Java applets and share information via the Internet, Intranets or a LAN. Projects can include tests, surveys and student assessment, all recorded in a networkable database. To see a prototype of 3D multimedia courseware, point any Java-aware browser to www.pierian.com and click on "The Fractionator." Pierian Spring Software, Portland, OR, (800) 472-8578.
