PowerBase is a Mac OS line of computers that outperform and cost less than a comparably configured Pentium-based Windows 95 system, according to Power Computing, the first licensed manufacturer of Mac compatibles. 

The entry-level system, for instance, is priced at $1,495. Designed with the PowerPC 603e RISC chip, the PowerBase line offers speeds of 240, 200 and 180MHz. All models ship with a base configuration of 16MB RAM, 256K upgradeable Level 2 cache, 1.2GB IDE internal hard drive, 8x CD-ROM drive, three PCI slots, upgradeable 3D accelerated graphics sub-system, extended keyboard and bundled software valued at $1,200. A CPU daughtercard makes future processor upgrades as simple as plug-and-play. 

Each model comes in low-profile or mini-tower cases with customized features. Some of the available options are 10BaseT and 100BaseT Ethernet cards, video-capture/playback cards, productivity software suites and an Internet bundle.
