The system comprises a Pentium PC, color scanner, speakers, microphone, monitor and software. Printed documents can be scanned and then displayed in their original format, including pictures and graphics.
Each spoken word and its context are highlighted simultaneously in different colors to reinforce reading skills and comprehension. For difficult or unfamiliar words, Omni 3000 provides spoken dictionary definitions, synonyms and letter-by-letter spelling.
Voice command recognition allows one to control the system without using the keyboard. Kurzweil Educational Systems, Inc., Waltham, MA, (800) 894-KESI, www.kurzweiledu.com.
