Create Interactive DL Courses with SW Package

WebMentor is a software package for developing customized distance learning that can be delivered via the Internet, intranets or extranets.

Learning Unit files, or courses, can be created, edited and managed from any location, and courseware can be adjusted to the needs of individual students or groups of students. Courses can be delivered to match particular student profiles, and course designers can choose from six different styles of questions to suit particular learning and teaching needs.

WebMentor supports a collaborative learning approach, letting students initiate interaction between themselves and instructors using e-mail, bulletin boards, forums and discussion groups. Web-based, real-time communication is built into the software, with whiteboards, application sharing, chat rooms, and audio and video conferencing all available.

Administrative functions include the ability to regulate enrollment, control registration, manage student records, collect fees, review registration status, specify course instructors, and review and update course information from within the WebMentor database. In addition, instructors can generate student progress reports and customize the program's interface for specific courses. WebMentor runs on Netscape servers and can be accessed with Netscape and Microsoft browsers on client PCs. Avilar Technologies, Inc., Laurel, MD, (301) 725-7014, www.avilar.com.
