Athena Software Modified to Benefit Student and School

Sagebrush Technologies, formerly known as Nichols Advanced Technologies, has collaborated with Northern Light to improve the research capabilities of the Athena library automation system. In a special feature called the Reference Search, you can employ Northern Light's research engine and search their Special Collection and the World Wide Web with the same terms you selected in Athena. "Northern Light is a logical extension of the library's catalog," said David Seuss, CEO of Northern Light. "Our staff librarians are continually evaluating and cataloging Web sites, as well as incorporating new full-text content into the Northern Light service, insuring the most informative and comprehensive information is made available to the library and its users."

Athena library automation system is one of twelve software applications participating in the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) initiative. This initiative, led by Microsoft Corp., aims to set a standard set of specifications in a school's software applications in departments as diverse as library, refectory, transportation and administration. SIF will reduce redundant data entry and allow data to be exchanged efficiently among different applications. Sagebrush Technologies, Austin, TX, (800) 642-4648, www.nicholsinc.com.
