JumpStart 2000 Challenges America's Students

An alliance of government, public and private organizations has announced JumpStart 2000: Your Chance to Build a Better Century, an appeal to the nation’s K-12 students to use science and technology to create solutions for a better life in the 21st century.

JumpStart 2000 invites students to form teams of four, with one adult coach. Entries are judged on creativity and innovation, scientific thinking and feasibility, and clarity of communication. All students are judged within their age and education level. Six winning teams and their ideas will be featured in PARADE and react in the spring of 2000. Deadline for all entries is January 14. Each winning team will receive $500 to create a demonstration of their solution and travel to Washington D.C. for an awards ceremony.
