CD-ROM for Grade 4 Combines Adventure and Learning

Knowledge Adventure’s JumpStart Adventures 4th Grade 2000 is an interactive CD-ROM based on national curriculum standards for grade 4. The program uses cross-curricular problem-solving skills to teach and reinforce essential fourth grade skills such as language arts, math, geography, history, Earth and natural science, art and music. The software tailors the learning experience to individual students’ needs by assessing and continually adjusting the program’s difficulty based on the student’s personal skill level. It also features a progress report enabling teachers to monitor each student’s progress, and a printed teacher’s guide suggesting supplemental learning activities.

The program follows an adventure game format, taking students through a gem mine, where they encounter several colorful characters and attempt to solve the mystery of a stolen treasure map. In order to progress through the mine, students participate in engaging educational activities. A tutoring component offers special instruction on nearly 200 individual topics.
