New Antennas for High-Speed Wireless

Lucent has introduced a number of certified outdoor antennas for the ORINOCO Outdoor Router system. These new antennas, the 24 dBi Directional Parabolic Grid, the 12dBi Directional Wide Angle and the 10dBi Omni Directional, make it possible to provide high-speed, wireless networking and Internet access with ranges of up to 26 km (point-to-point). Available for both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations, these antennas complement the ORINOCO outdoor offering that includes the Central Outdoor Router, the Remote Outdoor Router and the ORINOCO Fixed Wireless PC Card. The system operates in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz spectrum at 11Mbps.

The ORINOCO Outdoor Router system makes it easier and less expensive to provide high-speed wireless Internet access for a school or campus. The complete, certified package eliminates the need to piece together a system from various sources. The more powerful antennas can also reduce wireless infrastructure costs by requiring fewer central outdoor routers to service an area. With the wide selection of antennas, there is more flexibility in designing the wireless network configurations. The antennas can be mixed and matched to meet specific geographic coverage requirements. Lucent Technologies, Murray Hill, NJ, (800) WAVELAN, www.lucent.com.
