Learning Activities Support Curriculum

The Lightspan Achieve Now program is designed to help students in kindergarten through grade 6 prepare for achievement tests, learn core curriculum, and become familiar with technology. The software includes a series of six professional development CDs for teachers, as well as a new curriculum component to help students build solid reading skills using phonics and reading comprehension. The professional development component provides teachers with information on the latest teaching strategies to help them tailor their instruction to the needs of each student. In addition, two new Lightspan Adventures CDs have been added to the Achieve Now program. These programs include lessons in phonics, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development. The literacy program contains a structured but flexible plan, designed to enhance existing classroom curriculum.

An online component to the software is available when a school subscribes to the Lightspan Network, Lightspan’s online resource for classrooms. On the Web site, teachers, students, and parents can access new learning activities and resources that support the program. The School Focus channel features lesson plans linked to the software and online progress tests. The Lightspan Adventures channel features new reading, language arts, and mathematics activities.
