A new educational video game has been launched by Tabula Digita, an education software company, designed with multiplayer capabilities allowing students to compete, individually or in groups, with other students outside the classroom.

"Our kids really enjoyed competing against students from other states," said Jeffrey Gallup, instructional technology coordinator at Florida's Ocoee Middle School. "The collaboration between students was amazing. They used mathematical strategies--and it paid off. This educational video game clearly helps students understand that learning math skill can be fun"

The Evolver Multiplayer for Pre-Algebra and Algebra game (single player version for pre-algebra also available) is designed for students to face mathematical obstacles and navigate through mazes to score points. According to Tabula Digita, graphics and animation are similar to entertainment games currently on the market.

Algebraic concepts in the game include:

  • Proportions;
  • Number Lines;
  • Adding and subtracting integers;
  • Prime numbers, Order of operations;
  • Evaluating expressions;
  • Employing function tables; and
  • Solving equations.

Evolver Multiplayer for Algebra is a part of the DimensionM series of games offered by the company. Five versions are available for purchase from single user to district licenses and are available for both PCs and Macs.
