Education Technology Spending To Top $56 Billion by 2012
In the United States, IT spending in education will reach $47.7
billion by the end of this year and is expected to top $56 billion by
2012, according to a new report from Compass Intelligence, an IT
consultancy and market research firm. This growth in education--both
K-12 and higher ed--is being fueled in particular by expenditures in
telecommunications, collaborative technologies, and outsourced IT
services.

HP Debuts Hardware, Software To Support VMware Environments

LaCie To Ship 6 TB Desktop RAID
LaCie has introduced a new four-bay RAID that supports capacities up
to 6 TB. Designed for desktop storage, the new 4big Quadra array will
be available in 2 TB, 4 TB, and 6 TB configurations with support for
RAID 0 and RAID 5 configurations.

ExamWeb, Wiley Launch AP/SAT Prep Site
ExamWeb has announced the launch of CliffsNotes TestSuccess in
partnership with Wiley Publishing. The new online tool is designed to
help students prepare for the Advanced Placement and Scholastic
Assessment Test exams.

VMware Launches vClient, Aims To Create Desktops That Follow Users Anywhere
In an announcement at VMworld last week, VMware unveiled plans to
deliver a portfolio of solutions intended to turn virtualized desktops
into "universal clients." The initiative, dubbed vClient, begins with
a series of products called VMware View.

Microsoft To Expand Security Lifecycle Expertise
Microsoft is crossing the aisles to see the security process through
from start to finish--not just internally, but for outside software
developers too. The company plans to export its Security Development
Lifecycle (SDL) process to a greater extent by releasing tools and
support to IT pros later this fall, Redmond said last week.

Texas District Deploys Emergency Response System
Joshua Independent School District in Texas is rolling out a new
emergency communications system across its campuses. The deployment is
aimed specifically at addressing emergency situations by providing
first responders with school information.
