Smart To Ship Touch-Sensitive 'Smart Table' for Elementary Classrooms

Smart Technologies has announced a new touch-sensitive interactive learning center, called the "Smart Table," designed specifically for preK-6 students.

The Smart Table allows students and small groups to interact with the device (and each other), moving, twisting, and zooming objects, as well as drawing and writing with their hands. The system has a 27-inch screen with multi-touch and multi-user functionality, allowing for simultaneous use from an unlimited number of hands and fingers.

According to the announcement, the Smart Table comes complete with an integrated PC and projection system, controlled by a single on/off button. The system will ship with a suite of standard applications, as well as interactive games and activities intended to engage students. A stand-alone "toolkit" application accompanies the table that, when loaded onto a teacher's PC, provides customization capabilities, as well as the ability to create personalized content for the table.

Smart Technology plans to begin shipping the Smart Table in spring 2009. North American education pricing is expected to be $8,000.
