NJ District Overhauls E-Mail Archiving System

Glen Ridge Public Schools of Glen Ridge, NJ, has deployed the MXsense e-mail archiving system to organize its district e-mails. The four-school district located 16 miles west of New York aims to make its substantial archive easier to manage and search.

Winnie Boswell, director of technology at Glen Ridge Public Schools, said e-mails were previously backed up using a tape system, which made retrieval cumbersome and on-site storage risky. "We were looking for a Web-based e-mail archive tool to allow users to easily search, manage and gain access to critical e-mails," Boswell said. "With the service now fully deployed and integrated with our Microsoft Exchange environment, users can manage and search through archived e-mails from a browser interface."

Boswell added that because MXsense's "First 10" program allows users to use the complete functions of the hosted software on a free trial basis, the district was able to evaluate the effectiveness of the archiving system with 10 GB of storage before deciding if it was a good fit.

A spokesperson said the new system has already allowed the district to archive and organize more than 1.2 million messages totaling about 80 GB.
