Online Instruction Platform Gets New Parent Portal

Online instruction platform GradeResults has brought new enhancements to its service, including a parent portal, a new syllabus program, and a widget for multimedia submissions.

GradeResults is a unique learning platform that, in addition to extensive supplemental content and academic resources, offers one-click access to live tutors, experts in every major subject, who are available to answer questions and to provide help in working out problems, constructing essays, and developing projects such as multimedia presentations. In order improve the site's ability to facilitate such projects, the company recently added a widget (customizable desktop navigation box) to allow easy-access submission of multimedia files such as image, animation, audio, video, spreadsheet, and PowerPoint presentations.

Another new feature to the site is the Parent Portal, which gives parents both greater and easier access to monitor their children's progress on assignments, essays, and projects, as well as to review completed and graded work, and even to speak directly with an online instructor.

Louisiana Recovery School District (RSD) in New Orleans initially purchased GradeResults as a strategic response to intervention (RtI) tool. However, explained Lori Taylor, who manages supplemental education services for the district, the ease of use, range of features, and overall content have combined to create a very effective instruction tool for all learning levels, whether a student is on grade level, advanced, or even several years behind "The teacher can serve as a facilitator for all the children using the site, but they don't have to be teaching them all the same material at the same time. It's instructionally effective to meet the needs of all the students and close the learning gap."

Taylor added: "When the students log on and they ask a question and don't understand the response, or they don't get the concepts or content the way the tutor has presented it, the tutor will change the presentation and go at it an entirely different way. It's not like they only have one approach to teaching it."
