Online Georgia School To Offer Hybrid High School Completion Courses

James Madison High School, an all-online high school headquartered in Peachtree Corners, GA, has formed a partnership with Shreveport Job Corps in Louisiana to form a high school completion program using both online courses and textbooks.

The school, which is owned by Ashworth College and accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, follows Common Core State Standards. It will provide the online and correspondence courses necessary for students to finish high school through Shreveport Job Corps. The Corps, which is run by the U.S. Department of Labor, provides free academic and vocational training to students between 16 and 24.

To participate in the program, students need a computer connected to the Internet and Microsoft Office software. Assignments are graded within one week by an online instructor, and some may be graded immediately. In addition, grades for tests and quizzes are posted right away.

"Helping students earn a high school diploma, JMHS and Shreveport Job Corps Center will be able to create a foundation for significant career advantages and put these graduates further ahead, compared to those not having a diploma or a GED," said John Riser, vice principal for James Madison High School.
