Web Portal Helps Louisiana Students Prep for College

A new Web tool aims to help Louisiana high school students beef up their academic resumes with college courses.

Louisiana Connect, a college and career planning portal launched last summer by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) and ConnectEDU , has added a new feature that "notifies 11th and 12th graders across the state of their eligibility to participate in the Expanding High School Choice program," according to a statement released today by ConnectEDU. Through the program high school students can take classes, for credit, at more than 40 higher ed institutions in the state.

"From the beginning, LOSFA's ideal of a comprehensive college and career access portal was to be open to all aspects of planning, preparing and delivering what students need for success. Louisiana Connect is now poised to exceed all our expectations," said Melanie Amrhein, executive director of LOSFA, in a prepared statement.

Louisiana Connect provides resources designed to help students plan and prepare for college and the workforce. The Web portal also identifies potential career and advancement opportunities. The Expanding High School Choice is a component of the Louisiana's Course Choice initiative, which aims to broaden educational opportunities for students who want to boost "their academic performance and job readiness."
