Wikimedia Foundation Director Named to OpenEd Board

Lila Tretikov, executive director of the Wikimedia Foundation, has been named to the OpenEd Board of Directors. OpenEd, founded in 2012, is a free service offering a large catalogue of educational videos, games and assessments designed to help teachers find the right resources to teach Common Core standards.
Wikimedia Foundation Director Lila Tretikov was named to the OpenEd Board of Directors.

Tretikov was named the executive director of the Wikimedia Foundation in May, succeeding Sue Gartner.

Most recently, Tretikov was chief information officer for SugarCRM. She began her career with Sun Microsystems before founding GrokDigital, a technology marketing company. Tretikov has wide experience with open source implementation and programming.

Adam Blum, CEO and co-founder of OpenEd, said Tretikov's expertise will help OpenEd in its mission to provide open source, modern teaching tools and resources to educators.

"As a true veteran in the Open Source space, Lila's experience and advice is invaluable in OpenEd's mission," Blum said.

Tretikov said, "OpenEd is changing K-12 education by helping teachers build curricula for today's students. I am very excited by what this means and am looking forward to bringing my expertise to help change the future of learning."

OpenEd offers teachers and parents free tools to find video, games and assessment that enhance lesson plans. Its assessment creation tools allow teachers to create assessments while associating resources to individual questions. The result is the ability to instantly create a personalized learning plan for each student.

The Wikimedia Foundation is a nonprofit organization that encourages the growth, development and distribution of free, multilingual, educational content. It operates a number of collaboratively edited reference projects, including Wikipedia.

Tretikov has co-authored several patents in intelligent data mapping and dynamic language applications. She is also an advisor to the board of the Zamurai Corporation.

In May, Tretikov was named by Forbes magazine to its list of "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women."
