BoomWriter Launches Pro Version

BoomWriter has launched Pro, a suite of features designed to help teachers better assess student writing skills.

Included in the suite is a gradebook tool deigned that allows teachers to assess performance and monitor progress in specific areas using rubrics based on the Common Core State Standards. Rubrics are available for topics such as narrative, argument and opinion and informational and explanatory texts and are grouped by grades. A one-skill rubric is also available to help asses overall quality of a writing sample and all rubrics use a four-point grading skill and color coding to simplify use.

A reporting function provides access to scoring data for a whole class or individual students.

"Reports allow teachers to easily assess the scores for their class on their most recent project for a specific rubric, with scores then broken down for each individual skill," according to a news release. "All performance data is color-coded, and students' progress over time for each individual skill is also conveniently displayed. Teachers can review each student's entry from reports, as well as click to see a more comprehensive overview report of an individual student's grades and progress."

"BoomWriter is an awesome teaching tool that my students love using," said Emily Leonard, a teacher in Brookline, MA, in a prepared statement. "And now with gradebook, I can easily score their work in specific skill areas of writing and monitor their progress."

BoomWriter Pro is available for $2.99 per month. A free one-month trial is also available.
