Texas Teachers Expands Alternative Teacher Certification Program

Teachers, an alternative teacher certification program based
in Texas, is expanding to other regions of the United States with its
new Teachers
of Tomorrow program.
Texas Teachers began as Texas Teachers of Tomorrow in 2005,
and over the last 11 years the company has certified more than 35,000
teachers in the state of Texas through its online and blended learning
programs. "Our program has been an integral part of district
recruitment plans in Texas — we supply over 6,000 certified teachers
annually to our partner schools," said Vernon Reaser, CEO and founder
of Teachers of Tomorrow, in a news release.
The company is now expanding that program to other states with
the launch of its new Teachers of Tomorrow program and website. Dave
Saba, chief development officer of Teachers of Tomorrow, and his team
are meeting with education leaders in several states with the goal of
introducing the alternative teacher certificate program in those
regions.
Reaser said teacher shortages are reaching critical levels in
many states, and the Teachers of Tomorrow program aims to help address
that problem. The company cites declining enrollment in college of
education majors and an increase in teacher retirements, student
enrollment and the need for STEM, special education and bilingual
teachers as the reasons for the shortage. The company claims it has
"the infrastructure, expertise and proven record to help fill teacher
vacancies with highly-qualified individuals who want to serve their
communities in the classroom."
