Georgia School District Outfits Bus Fleet with Wi-Fi

A school district in Georgia has outfitted its school buses with filtered Wi-Fi so that students can continue their studies on the way home.

Liberty County School District (LCSD) is the first school district in the state to “provide students with free Internet access through high-tech mobile Wi-Fi units,” according to a news release. LCSD partnered with Kajeet, a provider of mobile student Internet connectivity, to upgrade its entire bus fleet.

Additionally, LCSD is hosting 24 “Homework Zones” throughout the area, parking the Wi-Fi enabled school buses outside apartment complexes, fire departments and police stations between 2:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

“The more technology we integrated into the curriculum, the greater the need for connectivity at home,” said John Lyles, director of transportation for Liberty County School System, in a statement. “We want to ensure no student is left behind because he or she doesn’t have the tools for success.”
