Kahoot! on Wednesday launched Kahoot! Studio, a new library of free, curriculum-aligned games designed primarily for K–12 classrooms.

The game-based learning platform offers a library of 20 million public “kahoots,” or learning games and quizzes, created by more than 50 million active Kahoot! users worldwide. Many teachers in the United States use kahoots during class, but the company heard that creating or finding usable kahoots would take a while.

“Kahoot! is at the intersection of education, technology and entertainment and we felt that we had a responsibility and duty to offer original content in order to make the lives of teachers much easier,” CEO Erik Harrell said in a prepared statement. “Teachers have told us that they don’t always have the time to produce their own content and this was the ultimate impetus behind Kahoot! Studio.”

Now, time-strapped teachers who are looking for ready-to-play learning games can select games on the homepage by subject and customize them as they see fit. Kahoot! Studio can be accessed on the app or via web browser. Initially, it will include a math collection that aligns to Common Core standards in algebra, fractions and geometry, which teachers can edit if needed to match specific standards or needs. Eventually, the library will include curated games for subjects like science and English language arts, with several hundred games coming to Kahoot! Studio in 2018.

The games were also designed as “edutainment” for the general public, according to information from the company. Kahoot! plans to partner with entertainment brands in the future to create edutainment games for everyone.

“Kahoot! Studio aligns very well with our mission to unlock the deepest potential of all learners and make learning awesome, enabling and empowering more and more teachers to play Kahoot! with their students,” Harrell said.

Kahoot! Studio games are free with registration.
