Ohio STEM Learning Network Launches Heart Disease Design Challenge
The Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) and the Central Ohio office of the American Heart Association have partnered to launch a design challenge asking students to find solutions to fight heart disease.
The OSLN has released an editable design challenge template and a fact sheet to help participating schools get started, along with a problem statement. "Throughout the year," according to a news release, "the Ohio STEM Learning Network will work with the American Heart Association to deliver resources and events for schools supporting the design challenge."
Battelle, the nonprofit research and development organization that runs OSLN, will host the design challenge this year.
"Last year, we saw incredible creativity and depth in the solutions students created to the opioid crisis," said Aimee Kennedy, senior vice president for education, STEM learning and philanthropy at Battelle, in a prepared statement. "This challenge brings the focus directly to student's own health and the kinds of technologies and science that they can use today to stay healthy."
"The American Heart Association strives to help achieve maximum impact in equitable health and wellbeing for our community," said Brenda Houston, central Ohio executive director, in a prepared statement. "We are so thankful for the support of Battelle in giving students the opportunity to realize their amazing potential. The STEM network is fostering the next great minds in research and science."
