Ed tech company FreshGrade has introduced FreshGrade Next, a platform that uses the technology of social media to organize and assess learning and allow administrators, teachers, students and families to communicate. Launched this week at ISTE 2019 in Phildelphia, the "learning network" combines four types of resources in a single interface:

  • Lesson planning, allowing teachers to align activities to standards, frameworks and assessments as well as meet school and district requirements;
  • Digital portfolio, compiling student work through a learning journal utilizing a variety of media to demonstrate learning;
  • Communication system, including mobile access for real-time engagement; and
  • Gradebook, featuring flexible assessment, standards- or score-based grading, and the ability to group students in different ways.

"FreshGrade Next pairs lesson planning, portfolio features, a gradebook and more with the value of social networking, forming a community for teachers, students and families to connect on a deeper level," said Lee Wilson, president of FreshGrade, in a statement. "The technology brings schools into parity with other online spheres of life, creating a space to design, organize, assess and discuss learning in real time."
