GoGuardian Adds Video Conferencing to Classroom Management

Education technology company GoGuardian is adding video conferencing within its K-12 classroom management program. GoGuardian Teacher will enable educators to do one-on-one or group audio and video calling, with screen sharing and lesson recording capabilities. The program already allows teachers to view what's happening on student devices. Now, they'll be able to interact with students virtually without the use of an additional video conferencing program, such as Zoom or Google Meets.

New features in GoGuardian Teacher include:

  • Video conferencing, enabling the teacher to initiate group video conferencing with session-level management, including "locking" students in on viewing only what the teacher is presenting, muting students or disabling webcams during the session;

  • Administrator-level control over when webcams can be enabled at the school level;

  • One-on-one video and audio calling to let the teacher have private sessions with individual students;

  • Screen sharing with video and audio, to help the teacher more closely replicate classroom instructional practices;

  • Lesson recording, to let the teacher share the session with students who couldn't attend in real-time; and

  • Student control over declining video recording permission, which turns off their audio and video, while still enabling them to listen in during a teacher-initiated call.

"Schools are adopting video tools to meet the needs of their students this upcoming school year, however, many of these tools are not built for the educational setting," said Tyler Shaddix, chief product officer, in a press release. "With GoGuardian Teacher video conferencing, we can continue to provide seamless support to classrooms, no matter where teachers or students are located."
