Acer Intros Chromebook Vero 712 and Other New Education Chromebooks

Acer has unveiled four new Chromebooks for the K–12 education market that feature durable designs, new processors, advanced connectivity, and performance features geared to support school technology standards. The Chromebook Vero 712 is specifically designed to handle more complex education tasks and increase student productivity.

The four new models are the Acer Chromebook Vero 712, the Chromebook 511, the Chromebook Spin 511, and the Chromebook Spin 512.

All four have the Chrome Education Upgrade, “which enables IT staff and administrators to manage, deploy and plan for student learning, all while ensuring students are getting the most from the Chromebooks,” the company said in its release. “IT departments can easily conduct admin support, manage devices, and have the new Acer Chromebooks automatically enrolled to their school sites as soon as the end user connects to the internet through Zero-touch enrollment.”

The Vero 712 includes features that allow students to tackle more complex assignments with ease:

  • A 12-inch HD+ IPS display with 3:2 aspect ratio for 18% more vertical space handy for text, maps and photos;

  • A 12th Gen Intel Core processor for faster coding and video editing while running several other programs and apps;

  • Ecological use of recycled materials, such as 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in the chassis and display bezel as well as 50% PCR plastic in the keycaps, and recycled paper packaging.

All four of the new Chromebooks have:

  • Two full-function USB 3.2 Type-C ports to transfer data up to 5 Gbps, connect to an HD display, and charge the device and other peripherals;

  • At least one USB 3.2 Type A port (with a MicroSD card reader on the 511, Spin 511, and Spin 512 models);

  • Wi-Fi 6E connectivity capability;

  • 720p webcams with shutters and Blue Glass Lens with temporal noise reduction for low-light conditions;

  • An array of eMMC storage options and up to 8 GB RAM;

  • Reinforced durability, with military-grade MIL-STD 810H-compliant standards and protection against moisture, drops, pressure, and other wear-and-tear.

  • Certification by leading toy safety standards, the ASTM F963-16 and UL/IEC 60950-1, for safe use by young children;

  • Recycled materials, sustainable packaging, energy efficiency, and EPEAT registration.

Specifications, prices, and availability may vary by region, the company said. All four models will be available in North America in April, at the following starting prices: Chromebook Vero 712, $429.99; Chromebook Spin 512, $499.99; Chromebook Spin 511, $449.99; and Chromebook 511, $379.99.

Founded in 1976, Acer has a presence in 160 countries and says it is “focused on enabling a world where hardware, software, and services will fuse with one another, creating ecosystems and opening up new possibilities for consumers and businesses alike.”
