Washington School for the Deaf in Vancouver, WA is making the move to provide educational services to deaf and hard of hearing students regardless of location. The statewide educational agency has adopted the Desire2Learn learning management system in an effort to provide direct instruction to students from around the state.

WSD is a statewide agency serving deaf and hard of hearing preK-12 students. The state-funded center, which provides educational, social, and other services to students. With the D2L solution, WSD will provide online instruction with certified teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing.

According to Desire2Learn, "WSD plans to provide courses related to a variety of subjects and age groups. The unique nature of online learning provides an opportunity to include skilled professionals from around the state who can share their abilities with students who desperately need the support."

"We are thrilled with the prospect of being able to meet the educational and communication needs of students through an innovative medium," said Heather Abraham, director of outreach for WSD, in a statement released this week. "Desire2Learn's services will allow us to reach students and provide quality instruction through an online learning format that is fully accessible to students who are deaf or hard of hearing."
