Cisco's Digital Media System Grows to 1,000 Campuses


Cisco has recently announced increased implementation of its Digital Media System thanks in part to early adoption by K-12 and higher education institutions. Over the last two years more than 1,000 organizations have implemented the system, which includes digital signage, campus television, and desktop video.

According to the company, organizations of varying sizes are using the Digital Media System to streamline media distribution for improved communications, increased learning opportunities, and more efficient sharing of emergency notifications. Institutions currently using the system include Santa Clara University, Hill College, Elon University, College of Southern Nevada, and Mobile County Public Schools, among others.

"Video is a critical medium for communicating to students, employees and customers," said Thomas Wyatt, vice president and general manager, Cisco's Digital Media Systems business unit, in a prepared statement. "With the Cisco Digital Media System, organizations can reach their key audiences on digital signs, on personal computers or on mobile devices."

Cisco has also announced new content distribution capabilities for the Digital Media System including added support for the company's Wide Area Application Services, as well as bandwidth optimization for Cisco Digital Media Players.
