San Antonio District Deploys Tablets Across 33 Campuses

The district chose Dell Latitude 10 tablets equipped with Microsoft Windows 8 for the deployment. The decision was at least partially driven by the district's intent to encourage students to connect to Big Universe, an integrated literacy platform that provides K-8 students and teachers with digital text curriculum resources across subject areas.

"Tablets give our students a device for self-directed learning and literacy that enables them to go beyond the text and pursue their own interests and intellectual curiosities," said Marcos Zorola, SAISD chief information officer, in a Dell release. "Dell's solution is the best for our school district's libraries because they not only deliver a great user experience, but the tablets are compatible with the library infrastructure, simplifying their deployment and management."

The district joins K-12 districts Fargo Public Schools, Spartanburg School District 3, and Westwood Independent School District (WISD) among districts to deploy the Latitude 10 tablets, according to the Dell Web site.

WISD is also located in Texas, and cited state online assessment needs in a Dell release as a factor in their deployment decision.

"We were seeking solutions that would bring technology into the classroom, sparking students' desire to learn, and also expanding our district's educational opportunities beyond the classroom," said Clint McLain, assistant superintendent and high school principal, Westwood Independent School District. "Additionally, Dell's tablets provided the best way to address our online student assessment needs here in the state of Texas."

The deployment will provide access to tablet technology for 22,000 students across the 33 campuses, according to the release.
