Scholastic Launches EReading Services for Schools

Scholastic has launched a pair of programs, Storia School Edition and Core Clicks, to bring digital reading into the classroom.

Targeted for students in grades preK-6, Storia School Edition is a subscription service that "grants a school access to a carefully curated library of 2,000 well-known fiction and nonfiction e-books," according to a news release. "Titles cover an optimal range of Guided Reading and Lexile Levels for each grade and include recognizable fiction, award-winning literary classics, and engaging nonfiction to meet every student's reading level and interests. Storia School Edition supports concurrent usage within a school, allowing multiple students to access the same titles simultaneously."

Features of the program include:

  • Storia Close Reads, short articles designed to support close reading with tools for marking text;
  • Dictionaries;
  • Comprehension quizzes;
  • Tools for highlighting and note taking; and
  • Pronunciation tools and audio for younger readers.

Core Clicks is an online program designed to provide reading resources in the areas of social studies and science for students in grades K-5. The program "presents leveled informational texts on 18 topics per grade," according to information released by the company, "while explicitly teaching Common Core Language Arts standards at each grade level."

Other features include:

  • Starter videos for 13 key skills;
  • Additional videos designed to reinforce skills and learning;
  • Informational text analysis;
  • Interactive exercises;
  • Quizzes; and
  • Varied levels of text complexity.
