iNACOL to Host Webinar on Assessment to Support Learning
The International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) will host a webinar August 10 exploring how the Assessment for Learning Project is reevaluating the ways assessments can support deeper learning.
"In March 2016, the Center for Innovation in Education (CIE) and Next Generation Learning Challenges announced $2 million in grant awards for 12 Assessment for Learning projects to support educators in fundamentally rethinking the core roles that assessment can play to support the attainment of deeper learning," according to a news release. "These 12 grantees are designing innovative ways to use assessment to build student agency, support a broader definition of student success and envision new systems of assessment and accountability."
Dubbed "Assessment for Learning Project: Rethinking Assessments for Deeper Learning," the webinar will feature presenters Linda Pittenger, CEO of the Center for Innovation in Education, and Sarah Lench, director of the Assessment for Learning Project at CIE.
"In December 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) ushered in a new era in federal K-12 education policy, creating a historic opportunity to rethink systems of assessments to support continuous improvement and student-centered learning," said Bruce Friend, COO of iNACOL, in a prepared statement. "Modernized systems of assessments focus on continuous improvement, the rapid closure of achievement gaps, and provide flexibility to align with next generation learning models."
