CD Shows Different Reference Techniques

Mrs. Murphyís Media Center is a CD-ROM that shows students in grades 2-4 effective ways to research. It offers 26 short lessons that explain media center necessities such as the Dewey Decimal System, and also suggests when to use different types of references.

Using an interface analogous to a media center, the CD has sections like The Catalog, The Stacks, The Audio Visual Room, and even The Check Out Desk. Colorful illustrations, photos, animation, music and narration provide fun learning. Treasure Hunts and short quizzes help kids use their new-found research skills.

Librarians may want to use Mrs. Murphyís Media Center in small groups, or simply let kids explore it on their own. Meridian Education Corp., Bloomington, IL, (800) 727-5507. WM
