Princeton Univ. Makes Microsoft SW Standard

Princeton University in New Jersey has selected Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Microsoft Office 97 and Microsoft Systems Management Server 1.2 as the standards for its PC Desktop Initiative (PDI).

The goal of the PDI is to establish a uniform network of hardware platforms, operating systems and software applications across all campus departments and offices.

"In order to increase our efficiency and effectiveness, it is essential that university administration work with a standardized platform," said Ira Fuchs, Princeton's vice president of computing and information technology. He added that the standards will facilitate the implementation of other software packages in the future.

"Microsoft provides the best cross-section of systems and applications for our needs," Fuchs stated. Microsoft Corp., Redmond, WA, (206) 882-8080, www.microsoft.com.
