AlphaSmart 3000

The AlphaSmart 3000 is a portable computer companion that lets students enter and edit text, then send it to any computer for reformatting or send it directly to a printer. A USB port allows for connectivity with Macs and PCs, and a standard serial port connects to printers. With a memory that holds up to 100 pages, the product allows users to edit, copy, paste, and spell-check text. A single keystroke sends text to a computer or printer, and text can be downloaded just as easily from a Mac or PC onto the AlphaSmart. The unit runs for 200 to 500 hours on three AA batteries.

New SmartApplet architecture gives the AlphaSmart 3000 the ability to download and run compact applications that expand its range of instructional uses and capabilities. AlphaSmart is working with leading educational software developers such as Advantage Learning Systems to create a new category of classroom solutions, including AlphaWord for word processing, a calculator, and Key Words for instructional keyboarding.

Other features of the product include password protection, foreign language support, keyword search, and easy portability.

Multiple AlphaSmart units are available in various classroom bundle packages, which include storage carts, cables, batteries, a training video, and more. AlphaSmart, Inc., Cupertino, CA, (408) 252-9400, www.alphasmart.com
