Microsoft Taps Tutor.com To Deliver On Demand Service

Microsoft and Tutor.com have entered an alliance to provide on demand tutoring services to Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2008 users, Microsoft's new homework suite.

Students who buy the Premium 2008 package will receive 75 minutes of free, online Tutor.com tutoring, which, Microsoft said, is roughly the same as four sessions with a professional tutor. This rounds out the software package, which is designed to help students tackle tougher subjects including math, science and foreign languages.

"Sometimes students require help that only a live, on demand expert is capable of providing, and this alliance will give students an increased opportunity for academic success overall," said Dave Brooks, product manager for Microsoft's Education Products Group, in a prepared statement.

Eliminating the need to schedule appointments with tutors, Tutor.com lets students tap into its network of more than 1,300 Candian, American, and bilingual Latin American tutors for live, on demand, one on one service. The service has provided more than 2 million tutoring sessions so far.

Through sales of the Microsoft suite, "Tutor.com expects to give away a million dollars of on-demand tutoring this fall," said George Cigale, founder and CEO of Tutor.com.
