Teltronics announced recently that it's been selected by GE Security to provide a new IP-based, secure multimedia platform that will serve as the next generation of the company's StarCall system. Dubbed StarCall iPLUS, the new SIP-compliant, IP-based platform is designed to provide a host of new features designed to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

The new platform--a private label version of Teltronics Cerato IP system--gives customers a Linux-based solution that provides a variety of features, including in-class phones, intercom and paging, timekeeping control, program source distribution, event processing, and an integrated mass communication system, among others. Some of the optional features include unified messaging, absence reporting, and a homework hotline.

"Collaboration with Teltronics has resulted in our StarCall iPLUS offering--the best-in-class solution for improving communications within educational facilities," said Steve Hein, general manager, fire and life safety products, GE Security, in a prepared statement. "Teltronics' industry knowledge and commitment to working with us has resulted in a solid, non-proprietary application that is fully integrated with our StarCall product."

According to GE Security, StarCall iPLUS will be distributed through the company's channel partners.
