Wyoming District Launches K-12 Virtual Academy

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

Niobrara County School District #1 in Wyoming has approved the launch of a new virtual charter academy, Wyoming Virtual Academy. Online education firm K12 will provide the curriculum for the school.

"Superintendent Jim McBride, the Wyoming Department of Education and state lawmakers did a tremendous job over the past two years creating a framework for districts to offer high quality and accountable online education programs to Wyoming students," said Rick Luchsinger, superintendent of Niobrara County School District, in a prepared statement. "Our district looks forward to working with the Department and school districts across the state to ensure that the Wyoming Virtual Academy is a successful public education program that meets the needs of students and families."

Wyoming Virtual Academy is a statewide public K-12 virtual school providing tuition-free education, the first such public institution in Wyoming. It's open to students throughout the state.

There are two distinct programs through the academy: a K-8 program and a high school program. Those enrolling in the K-8 program receive instructional materials, printer, a computer (on loan), and a stipend for Internet use. A learning coach provides guidance and assistance to younger students.

High school participants receive the same base equipment and are also offered a variety of curriculum options, an individualized learning plan, and access to advisors, coordinators, and other support personnel. The high school program offers more than 100 individual courses and four levels of courses each in core subjects like English, mathematics, history, and science.

Enrollment for the fall is open now. Further information can be found here.
