SoftChalk 7 Adds HTML5, Mobile Functionality

SoftChalk Connect Plus is also released, adds subscription-based services to cloud-based learning object repository.

Ed tech developer SoftChalk has released an update to its authoring suite for education, SoftChalk 7, and launched a premium version of its learning object repository, Connect Plus.

SoftChalk 7 is an interactive multimedia media authoring tool for K-12 and higher education. It's designed to let instructors create and edit e-learning resources on the Web without the need for HTML or other programming knowledge. It includes built-in style sheets for page navigation, layout, and other design elements and automatically packages the materials for use in a learning management system or other delivery medium.

The new version 7 release, which rolled out Monday, adds new functionality that automatically generates a mobile version of materials created using the tool and displays the appropriate version based on the device the viewer is using. It also adds six new HTML5-based templates for creating materials.

In related news, SoftChalk has also released a new premium version of its learning object repository, SoftChalk Connect Plus.

The "Plus" edition adds subscription-based services designed to let users "collaboratively create, share and track high quality educational content." It includes additional storage space (1 GB personal space versus 20 MB in the free edition), more control over media, automatic versioning, unlimited numbers of embeddable polls and ratings (versus five in the free version), collaborative editing, and student score tracking.

Both SoftChalk 7 and SoftChalk Connect Plus are available now. The standard version of Connect is also still available free. Additional details can be found on the SoftChalk site.
