CompassLearning Odyssey 2012 To Improve Curriculum Customization

K-12 educational software provider CompassLearning has unveiled the latest major update to CompassLearning Odyssey, which is scheduled for summer release.

The new release feature increased flexibility for curriculum customization, as well as new grade management features and hundreds of new activities and quizzes, particularly in the area of middle school science.

Improvements incorporated into the Odyssey 2012 release include:

  • More control for teachers to customize based on their specific needs;
  • More than 400 new activities covering math, science, and language arts spread over the K-12 curriculum;
  • Alignment to state standards and Common Core;
  • New course and grade management features; and
  • Access to pre-designed Odyssey High School course offerings.

Odyssey 2012 is designed to fit specific needs of each student more readily than in past versions. The new release will allow customization by both teachers and district administrators to create individual course offerings featuring an option to upload custom material from either external documents or embedded links.

Customization can be controlled at either the classroom level or at the district level to provide greater management and to provide flexibility for individual learners.

The new release also offers improved gradebook functionality, including a spreadsheet-style interface for inputting grades and automatic population of scores from the system's assessments and activities directly into the gradebook.

In addition, weighting of individual activities, assignments, quizzes, and other graded material can be customized by the teacher for more control when calculating final grades, and each teacher's grades can be exported afterward into a variety of standard file formats to allow greater ease for working with other systems within each school district.

The latest release will also offer enhanced credit recovery for use in summer school, extended year, or other recovery programs that a district may choose to implement. Pre-designed course offerings can be personalized to create the most effective program for the student as an individual with specific needs.
