Voyager Learning Launches Summer School Grant Program

Voyager Learning, a provider of intervention materials, professional development, and school improvement services for pre-kindergarten through grade 12, is accepting online applications for a new grant program to help fund summer school programs. The deadline to apply for the Summer School Grant Program is April 15, and awards will be distributed on a rolling basis.

Grant funds will go toward offsetting the cost of purchasing Voyager Learning's Web-based summer curriculum programs, which include the TimeWarp Plus reading intervention program, Voyager Adventure Series experiential reading and math program, Vmath Summer Adventure math intervention program, Voyager Online Algebra program, and Everyday English Plus program for new English learners.

TimeWarp Plus provides intervention reading lessons for three to four hours daily for students in grades K-9. It is designed for classes and small groups, and provides lessons in writing, spelling, listening, and speaking. Other features include word-highlighting, audio, and read-along passages.

Voyager Adventure Series is a program for students in grades K-8 that combines learning real-world language arts and mathematics skills. It includes a classroom management system, hands-on learning stations, and 60 hours of instruction for each level.

Vmath Summer Adventure, intended for students who need extra help in basic math skills in grades K-8, provides targeted math lessons with a focus on math vocabulary improvement. It includes automatic feedback, built-in assessments to monitor student progress, and data management tools.

Voyager Online Algebra, developed for at-risk students in grades 8-12 and up, provides interactive labs that link algebra to real-world situations. Features include video, diagrams, photos, and narrated text. It also provides links to journal questions, tutorials and graphs. Voyager Online Algebra integrates with Gizmos from ExploreLearning.

Everyday English Plus is a year-long program for new English learners in grades 6-12. Students learn the language through real-world scenarios about the mall, grocery store, neighborhood, home, school, and more. Everyday English Plus is designed to teach students sounds, letters, common words, phrases, vocabulary, and grammar.

The grant program, which is open to K-12 schools and school districts, will award applicants that show "high-fidelity, results-driven summer programs that are supported by professional development," according to the Dallas, TX-based company. To apply for a grant, districts need to show significant dropout rates, a "high percentage" of students struggling in math or reading, or financial limitations for previous Voyager Learning customers.
