TechSmith Updates Snagit with GIF, Panoramic Features

TechSmith has updated its inexpensive screen, video and audio capture tool, Snagit. Version 13 for Windows and version 4 for Mac add personalization capabilities, a panoramic feature for capturing images that go beyond a single display, new tools in the editor and the ability to create animated GIF files.

The latest releases give users the ability to configure many aspects of the utility's functionality, including how captures are depicted and how the user toolbar is laid out.

A "panoramic" feature lets the user capture an entire web page, large Excel spreadsheet or other tall or wide displays that stretch beyond what can be viewed on a single screen.

The editor, which has long had a callout tool, now includes new crop and text tools for manipulating captured images, as well as new shapes and updated stamps that are "infinitely" scalable.

A webcam feature has been added to enable the user to toggle between webcam and screen video. The user can, for example, capture quick webcam recordings to introduce a screen demonstration.

Finally, the new release of the software adds an animated GIF editing feature, which lets the user create looping animations without sound from a video recording for quick communications.

The company said it has also made performance enhancements to speed up operations when dealing with images that have 10 or more items on the work canvas and to address large image work.

Current customers of Snagit 12 on Windows or Snagit 3 on Mac can upgrade to the new editions for $24.95. The company offers education discounts. Under that, a single user license is $29.95, and for 100 or more users, the price is "less than" $15 per license.
