Site Provides Free Interactive School Security Awareness

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

A free, interactive School Security Awareness Map and blog went live online in April at www.schoolsafetynews.com. Developed by SafePlans and designed to inform stakeholders on the need for improved school safety, the site includes a map that displays relevant school security-related issues.

With the goal of improving situational awareness through the posting of school safety-related incidents and success stories, the site includes only those postings that include information that is readily accessible through the media (on topics such as school shootings, bomb threats, evacuations, severe weather, bus accidents, and school safety improvements).

Since April 1, more than 70 K-12 and higher education incidents have been posted on the site, which includes a blog developed to educate stakeholders on trends and best practices in school safety.
