Sanyo and eInstruction have teamed up to release two new solutions that combine an ultra short throw LCD projector and interactive lesson software to enable interactive whiteboard functionality without the board.

The solutions, dubbed the PLC-WL2503SE and PLC-WL2503SE2, use the PLC-WL2503, a projector  that detects the movements of an interactive pen or wand through a sensor mounted bellow its lens, and eInstruction's Workspace software to capture, store, and replay annotations made over projected images.

The projector has a native resolution of 1,280 x 800 (WXGA), a brightness of 2,500 lumens, and a contrast ratio of 500:1.  Projected image sizes range form 60 inches to 100 inches (diagonal) at distances between 2.1 and 3.9 feet.

The projector supports both wired LAN connections and RS-232 control.

Additional features include:

  • Color correction for projecting images over green boards or blackboards;
  • Economy mode;
  • A throw ratio of 0.5:1;
  • An integrated 10-watt speaker; and
  • ±20 degree vertical keystone correction.

The projector measures 5.7" (h) x 13.8" (w) x 15" (d) and weighs 10.4 pounds.

AV inputs include HDMI, analog RGB/component (mini D-sub 15-pin), S-video, composite, stereo RCA jacks, and a stereo minijack.  AV outputs include analog RGB/component (mini D-sub 15-pin) and stereo RCA jacks.  Networking and control ports include RJ-45 and RS-232.

The bundled software can capture and save annotations, graphics, video, audio files, and Flash animations.  In addition to its capturing capabilities, the software also provides images, complete interactive lessons, and a Flash library.

Additional software features include:

  • Standards-aligned assessment questions for use with some interactive lessons;
  • A curtain control that hides information;
  • A magnifier;
  • Highlighter; and
  • Spotlight.

The PLC-WL2503SE solution, a bundle of both the project and software, currently ships for $1,995. The PLC-WL2503SE2 solution ships with an additional wall mount, the EST150, and can be had for $2,195.
