Advantage Learning Systems has introduced a new formula for determining the reading level of books into its Accelerated Reader software. The reading management program will utilize the Advantage/TASA Open Standard, or ATOS, a readability formula specifically designed for student reading of self-selected books. The standard was developed after two years of research into students' book-reading patterns and difficulties, and reflects such factors as books' lengths and subjects.
